CREDA to develop energy efficient towns

Published on:

Taking energy conservation drive forward, Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA), will be developing energy-efficient towns in the State. Under this drive, the CREDA is going to develop at least seven towns in the State as solar energy efficient.

“To reduce dependency on coal-fired electricity, CREDA is going to develop seven energy efficient-towns in Chhattisgarh. For this purpose, CREDA will inspire municipal corporations and local bodies to ensure installation of energy efficient lights and equipments in street-lights and pumping units,” sources in CREDA informed.

CREDA has recommended municipal corporations and local bodies to opt for energy efficient lights and equipments at the time of expansion instead of preferring non-efficient lights and equipments, the source said, adding “moreover, Government buildings and departments have also been instructed to take up solar energy efficient lights and equipments”.

To encourage corporations and local bodies for switching to energy efficient lights and equipments, the agency is undertaking audit of electric consumption in municipal corporations.

Due to CREDA’s efforts, around 5000 non-efficient lights have been replaced with energy efficient lights for illuminating street-lights across the State during expansion work, informed the source and further added that power efficient lights have been installed in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Ambikapur, Raigarh and other towns.

“Installation of energy efficient lights and equipments would be resulting in conservation of over 30 percent electricity in such corporation and local bodies,” claimed the officer.
