Covid appropriate behaviour can counter any variant

Till date no case of Delta variant of the corona virus has been reported in Chhattisgarh though neighbouring states have some cases, the government said on Saturday, adding that Covid appropriate behaviour can counter the threat.

Dr Subash Mishra, Director (Epidemic), told the media that there was no need to panic as long as people embrace the Covid appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated.

The virus has the characteristics of mutating with time. It may become more potent or weaken, he added.

The Covid-19 positivity rate in the state has come down to 1.09 percent but a slight increase in positive cases has been reported in Durg, Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Jashpur and Janjgir-Champa, Dr Mishra said.

This indicates that people have started neglecting Covid appropriate behaviour and this can prove fatal, he said.

The highest number of active cases are in Bijapur, Bastar, Sukma, Jashpur, Raigarh, Dhamtari and Baloda Bazar.

He said from June 21, 7.70 lakh doses of vaccine have been administered covering 25 percent of the population. Chhattisgarh is now way ahead in vaccination as compared to other states.

Black Fungus cases in the state have reached 350 with 32 deaths. The districts of Durg, Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon and Janjgir have reported the most cases, Dr Mishra said.
