A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court here on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of a coal scam kingpin Suryakant Tiwari, a suspended IAS officer and two others for four more days.
All of them have been charged with allegedly extorting money from coal and mining transporters in Chhattisgarh.
The court also extended the custodial remand of a deputy secretary rank officer, posted in Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s office, for another four days to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Additional District and Sessions Judge Ajay Singh Rajput extended the remand of Tiwari and three others as well as the ED custody of Saumya Chaurasia till December 10, advocate Faizal Rizvi said.
Rizvi is the lawyer for all five of them.
The ED last Friday nabbed Chaurasia and a special court sent her to ED custody.
ED lawyer Saurabh Kumar Pandey claimed that the central agency had enough evidence against Chaurasia.
The five were presented before the court after expiry of their judicial and custodial remands.
They were arrested after the ED conducted multi-city raids in Chhattisgarh on October 11.
The agency said it seized unaccounted cash totalling Rs 4.5 crore, gold jewellery, bullion and other valuables worth Rs 2 crore during the raids.
