The CT Scan machine installed in the Medical College Hospital here at the cost of `1 crore, 99 lakh in the year 2005 is turning in to a waste, thanks to the lack of proper maintenance of the apparatus.
Now, the machine allegedly breaks down even in the middle of scanning leaving the patient in lurch but no step is taken by the hospital management to improve the situation. According to hospital sources, during the last 8 years, the machine has broken down at least a dozen of times.
CT Scan in-charge Dr Govind Singh told The Pioneer that ICS tower of the machine has expired and request for replacing the same has been sent to the health Department but no action was taken on it as yet. Before developing defect in the ICS tower CT Scan of around 20 patients was done on daly basis but now it has slipped to 10-12 a day. On excessive use the machine breaks down after getting heated and restarts only after two hours interval, he added.
According to Dr Singh, The price of the new ICS Tower is `12 lakh and the officials concerned have been informed for replacing it. Till it gets repaired, patients will have to face inconvenience, he added.
