Chhattisgarh’s Home Department has directed Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all the districts on Saturday to launch an extensive campaign for preventing child marriage in the State and also to educate people about the fallout of child marriage.
A circular to this effect has been issued by Crime Investigation Department (CID) from Police Headquarters (PHQ) to all SPs.
In a view of Ramnavami (on April 15) and Akshaya Tritiya (May 9), SPs have been instructed to go for an awareness campaign for preventing child marriage in their respective districts.
The home department has suggested SPs to remain extra vigilant for ensuring prompt action in case of receiving information about child marriages.
Moreover, for success of the awareness campaign, the SPs have also been directed to unite influential personalities of the society and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) working in larger interests of women with the programme.
Notably, series of efforts are being made by Woman and Child Development Department of Chhattisgarh and National Human Rights Commission to stop the practice of child marriage in the State.
The SPs have been directed to check child marriage in the State by exercising powers conferred under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006, informed officials, adding that the officials have been asked to provide details of awareness campaigns to Crime Investigation Department (CID).
