Cops learning skills for scientific investigation

To give momentum to investigation of the cases related to heinous crimes like murder, theft, rape etc, from constable to sub inspector level employees of police department are being trained in scientific investigation techniques, Forensic lab sources said.

Notably, due to delay in proper investigation of the crime site often vital evidences get destroyed making the investigation an uphill task for the police. Now, the cops are imparted skills how to seal the crime site to protect the evidences which could prove vital in the investigation.

Even a little lapse proves costly for police to reach the culprit. Due to unprofessional approach of cops in collecting the materials from crime scene on several occasions the materials sent to forensic labs are sent back due to inadequacies and then police officials have to start the entire procedure afresh.

More attention is being paid to training constable and sub inspector level staff as their role is very crucial in the early stages of investigation. After the current training session, these cops will have to undergo training of special tests which would prove handy for them in future.

According to joint director of Forensic lab Dr B Suri Babu, these experiences prove very useful for a police jawan in field duty. Investigation through scientific methods makes a case easy for a cop, its in fact a very essential part of their duty and considering its importance the department continuously updates their knowledge, Suri Babu said.He said if the blood sample is collected safely from the crime spot it will reveal not only group of the blood as also will tell whether it is of human or of animal. likewise, in case of death due to drowning, water of the pond kept safely tells whether the death was due to drowning or the person was thrown into pond after having been murdered outside.

In case of exhuming a body, a cop has to collect soil from nearby area also. Therefore, skills of sealing the crime spot to packing of physical/material evidences are imparted to cops, Suri Babu added.
