District president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Ashok Pandey on Thursday said the Congress was on a weak wicket, which could fall any time.
Pointing to the increasing dissidence in the Congress in Chhattisgarh, he said that prominent regional faces of the Congress such as Motilal Sahu, Sourabh Singh, Arun Tiwari have already joined the queue of the disgruntled leaders and many more are likely to follow suit in the coming weeks and months.
“Senior leaders in the Congress are finding helplessness. They are afraid of being washed away by the Modi wave and it was at that time, the Congress Yuvraj had to come to the forefront,’’ he said.
The BJP leader further said that it was because of the anger of the Congress Yuvraj that some Congress leaders are unwilling to contest the lok Sabha election and the Congress has never found itself in such a situation post-Independence.
BJP district vice president Gobardhan Khandelwal, Shyamsunder Agrawal, Jayanti Patel, Geeta Thakur, and Sushma Dastani claimed that the Congress had been passing through a very bad phase.
The Congress candidates have been facing opposition from their local workers in every constituency. The BJP leaders said that the late VC Shukla family devoted their whole life for strengthening the Congress but the party did not provide them their due.
“late VC Shukla sacrificed his life for the party. When the party neglected his family, one can imagine what would be the fate of the common party workers,’’ they asked. The BJP leaders further remarked that there is no consensus in the Congress party over the candidature for Raipur seat.
The Congress workers and leaders have been fighting for power and chair while the BJP and its workers are fighting a battle to build the country, they said.
