Congress in Chhattisgarh will launch a State-wide ‘jail bharo andolan’ on September 26 in protest of killing of a Dalit youth Satish Norge at a police station in Janjgir-Champa district recently, Congress state chief Bhupesh Baghel informed on Wednesday.
“The basic issue is that Satish Norge and other villagers had reached the office of electricity department demanding to resume the power supply. They even paid a bribe of ` 1500 to employees of electricity department, however, power supply could not resume,” Bhupesh Baghel told reporters at a press conference.
He added that the fundamental fact is there is rampant corruption in the electricity department and the power supply in the state was erratic and customers have been forced to pay excess bills.
“Satish Norge’s murder happened due to serious shortcomings in the electricity department. Therefore, Chief Minister Raman Singh is responsible for his death and we demand his resignation,’’ Baghel claimed.
“We also demand that case of murder should be registered against the electricity department officials,” he stated.
Baghel further said that Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was expected to tour State between October 20-25 and a final schedule would be worked out in consultation with party high-command.
