The Congress has taken a U-turn on Covid-19 vaccination by first demanding power to procure and distribute vaccines and then asking the Centre to do so, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said on Sunday.
Addressing the media, he said Congress national and state leaders first raised the demand for giving rights to the states for the procurement and distribution of vaccines.
After the power was delegated, now Congress leaders are saying that the Centre should procure it and give it to the states, he said.
Thus, the Congress is blaming the Central government after promising free vaccination for the 18-44 age category, he added.
According to him, the Centre has provided 89.55 lakh vaccine doses to Chhattisgarh free of cost for the 45 plus age category till date. The state has vaccinated 88 percent health and 86 percent frontline workers with a single dose.
There are enough stocks of vaccine in the category but no progress is being madem he said.
Due to lack of calling tender on time and making advance payment for vaccinating the 18-44 category, a shortage has hit the vaccination drive in the state, he said.
