The Opposition Congress on Friday demanded resignation of Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal while accusing him of illegally constructing a temple on Government land.
The Congress party has alleged that Agrawal has encroached a land near Charagan and has constructed a temple on it.State Congress president Bhupesh Baghel said his party could move no confidence motion against the Speaker.Speaking to reporters here, leader of Opposition TS Singh Deo and Baghel said that 0.46 hectres of land has been encroached at Mahadev Ghat at Raipura by Chhaganlal Govindram Agrawal trust.
A total of 19 shops, ‘Satsang Bhavan’, and temple have been built on the land, they stated.Baghel said the trust did not have record of right on the land .In spite of that the trust and the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) has signed an agreement. The agreement bears the signature of its Treasurer Gauri shankar Agrawal which is shocking, he said.
Baghel said the Revenue department had clearly announced to remove the encroachment but it seems the trust members have committed irregularities.Without the help of department officials and employees such irregularities cannot be committed, he said.Baghel said the after a local organization filed a complaint with lok Ayog, the Raipur Tehsildar had imposed a fine of Rs5000 on Chhaganlal Govindlal Trust and issued notice to it seeking immediate removal of the encroachment.
The Raipur District Collector had also ordered the local officials to confiscate the land.Electricity was supplied and the land was used for commercial purpose, he said , adding, when the irregularities were committed, at that time Agrawal was the Chairman of the Board. He misused his official position and carried out the illegal act by putting pressure on officials, Baghel alleged.
