Dissatisfied by the reply tendered on huge expenditure incurred in maintenance of the roads in Naya Raipur, the Opposition Congress staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Wednesday. During the question hour, Congress member Dhanendra Sahu raised the issue that despite huge construction cost, lots of money is being paid for maintenance of roads in Naya Raipur.

He said that the construction cost of road in Naya Raipur is about Rs5 crore per km. Despite such a high construction cost, the performance guarantee of these roads is only 3 years, which is much less than roads constructed at other places. He said that a tender of Rs30 crore for routine and periodic maintenance of the road has been given to the company for three years. A payment of more than Rs5 crore has been done to the company.

Sahu said that the roads are in very good shape and no repair or maintenance work has been witnessed on these roads. PWD Minister Rajesh Munat said that maintenance work has been carried out for which payment has been made. Sahu demanded for an investigation on the spot. He asked about the Competent Officer to whom he should approach for investigation. Munat replied that there is no need of investigation.  Dissatisfied by the reply, the Congress members staged a walkout. The Minister said 72.25-km-long roads have been constructed under City label Roads Phase-1 in Naya Raipur for an expense of Rs337.57 crore. The construction was completed on January 31, 2011.
