Congress slams State Govt over diarrhoea deaths

The Opposition Congress party on Monday criticised Health Minister Amar Agarwal for celebrating his birth day with much fun-fare at a time when hundreds of people were battling for life following a diarrhoea outbreak.

State Congress spokesman Anand Sukla said the disease has already killed more than one hundred people in poverty-hit Bastar area while over one thousand others had been struggling with the illness.

The number of people killed in Narayanpur district alone has reached 52. While highest 25 people died in Batekap village, a total 27 people have been killed in three villages of Binamunda Kondanar, and Chidapur, he pointed out.

“There was no adequate medicine available in the region. The villagers were so afraid that they were migrating to other area out of fear,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that the Health Minister was busy for the celebration of his own birth day when the State was battling such a huge tragedy. This demonstrates the insensitiveness of the Government towards the victims” he said.

Sukla also accused Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar, of distributing malaria tablets to diarrhea affected people in his constituency area without realizing their consequences.

The Government should sound red alert in the affected area and ensure immediate treatment of those affected by sending special teams, he said.
