Congress ruined economy: Raman

The Congress party is responsible for the inflation, price rise, unemployment and the Maoist violence, chief minister Raman Singh said while campaigning for BJP candidate in Bastar lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday.

The campaigning ended on Tuesday for Bastar seat where the BJP nominee and sitting MP, Dinesh Kashyap, is locked in a direct contest with Congress candidate Deepak Karma, son of the late Congress veteran Mahendra Karma.

The chief minister who embarked on a whirlwind tour of the Maoist-hit area and addressed several public meetings said it was because of the flawed economic policy of the Congress-led UPA government that the people had to face inflation and price rise.

“The terrible inflation, increasing Maoist activities and terrorism are the outcome of the ten-year Congress rule,” he remarked at a rally at Nelsanar in Bijapur district. Singh also addressed public meetings at Geedam village in Dantewada district and Makdi in Kondagaon district and urged the people to vote for the BJP candidate Kashyap.

“In India, the poor became poorer under the Congress raj. The Congress is responsible for the current situation and in the ensuing lok Sabha election the people are determined to give it an emotional farewell,” he remarked amid clapping by voters at Makdi.

In his speeches the chief minister not only attacked the  Congress-led UPA government, he also highlighted the development and welfare measures the BJP government has carried out in Chhattisgarh for the villages, the poor and the farmers, during the last ten years.

Singh said, “The development in Bastar area will get a boost if the National Democratic Alliance forms its government at the Centre. It will also help to get rid of the Maoist problem.” Singh also appealed to the Maoists to shun violence and join the mainstream of society.

Hitting out at the Manmohan Singh government, the chief minister said poverty has increased across the country during the Congress rule. The increase in the prices of essential commodities has hit the common people hard.

“The country suffered heavily during the UPA tenure, prices of fuel and essential commodities increased manifold, but Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who claims himself as a renowned economist and the president of his Congress party Sonia Gandhi are least bothered,” he said.

Singh further added that the people voted in favour of the BJP in large numbers in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh because the governments in these states were sincerely working for the improvement of the poor, the farmers and the workers.

Singh claimed Chhattisgarh is the first state in India to enact a food security Act to get the foodgrains to the most needy.Addressing a gathering at Geedam, Singh said nobody will remain hungry under the BJP rule in Chhattisgarh and to ensure a two square meal daily to the poor, the state government has been providing rice at rupee one per kilogram.

The Chief Minister said his government will provide electricity to every village, and improve communication by building concrete roads.
