Congress questions cancellation of Unified Command meeting

The Congress party on Sunday raised questions over cancellation of unified command meeting that was scheduled to be chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his two-day visit in Chhattisgarh. State Party General Secretary Shailesh Nitin Trivedi also demanded from the State Government to detail out the benefits to be received by Chhattisgarh from the visit of the Union Minister.

Trivedi said most of the Naxal affected states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are ruled by the BJP or its allies.

“Why did not  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh asked these states to sit together and form some joint strategy to deal with Maoists,” Trivedi questioned adding, how could mere inauguration of  a Police Headquarters (PHQ) and visiting Sukma district somehow would curb the menace of Naxalism.

Trivedi further stated that the Union Home Minister did nothing to boost the morale of paramilitary forces deployed in Bastar.

The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar during his earlier visit had said that his Ministry was ready to provide logistic support and training to paramilitary forces. ‘Why did not Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh make any announcement’, he asked.
