Congress points out irregularities in paddy procurement

Published on:

The Opposition Congress party on Thursday pointed out irregularities in the procurement of paddy from the farmers in Chhattisgarh. Congress spokesman Ghanshyam Raju Tiwari said the government started procurement of paddy on October 22 but the centres where they are being procured still lack necessary facilities.

They don’t have sufficient staffs. No facilities have been made available to protect paddy from the rains, he said. Although farmers are happy for having a bumper crop, they are afraid of bringing it to the procurement centres, he said.

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party government of ignoring the interest of the farmers, he said the Congress has decided to launch a state-wide agitation.

If the Government does not look after the interest of the farmers within a week, the Congress will be forced to protest on streets, he said.

The BJP Government does not understand the feelings of the farmers although it is the right time to help them. Farmers will incur heavy loss if they were not given required supports in time, he said.

The farmers are upset and angry. They will teach a lesson to the Government in the Assembly election which will be held on November 11 and 18, he said.

BJP insulted Chhattisgarh youths: Congress

On the other hand Congress also alleged on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government failed to provide jobs to millions of unemployed youths in Chhattisgarh and by doing that it has insulted them.

In a joint statement party state chief and union minister Charan Das Mahant and leader of opposition in the assembly Ravindra Chaubey said the central United Progressive Alliance Government pumped in crore of rupees so that the State Government creates job opportunities.

The funds were allocated for carrying out training of youths for their self employments but most of the funds were not misused. The BJP showed them big dreams but never allowed them to fly and cut down their wings, they alleged.

Instead of developing the small medium and cottage industries the Government concentrated on big industries and thereby created fewer jobs.

The Government acquired thousands of acres of crop lands for such projects and forced displacement of large number of farmers, they said. large numbers of people also have migrated outside for survivals, they alleged.

State Congress spokesman Jaswant Claudius said the state government received huge funds from the central government under different schemes. Instead of providing due credits to the Centre, the State Government launched own schemes on the funds and attempted to take all the credits, he said.
