Congress MLA raises issue of illegal liquor

Published on:

Congress MLA Chhanni Chandu Sahu on Tuesday raised concern over the booking of minor boys by the Excise Department in name of illegal liquor sale in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district.

Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma promised the Assembly that a departmental probe and action will              follow.

Raising the question during the winter session, Sahu sought details of the number of liquor shops in Rajnandgaon district, daily consumption and number of cases of illegal liquor sales registered.

Sahu said a Class VIII student has been booked. Will the Minister take action against the concerned               official for ruining the future of a student, she asked.

BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal said it was                unfortunate that a student has been implicated. The official should be immediately terminated, he said.

The government should take responsibility for the student and compensate him, he said.

Although Lakhma promised a departmental probe and action, BJP            members and Sahu were not satisfied. This led to chaos in the House.

Congress MLA Brihaspati Singh faulted the BJP leaders for not believing the assurance of the minister. Responding, BJP's Agrawal said: “You will know when your son is taken away in the same manner.”
