The anti-farmer face of the Congress party was unmasked as the Central Government led by it has yet to announce any help for the farmers of Chhattisgarh who suffered due to unseasonal rain, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Friday.
Party State president Vishnudev Sai said the Congress party first misguided the farmers before the assembly election by suggesting them not to send their paddy to the societies. But the farmers declined to the suggestion. The societies procured record quantity of paddy from the farmers by paying minimum support price along with the bonus, he said.
After failure of its ulterior motive, the Congress started giving ill advice to the farmers on minimum support price despite the fact that it was the Central Government led by Congress which fixes it, he said. Now when the ruling BJP Government has started paying Rs 300 bonus per quintal of paddy keeping its election promises, the Congress has been trying to misguide the farmers again, he alleged.
He also accused the Union Minister of State for Agriculture Dr Charan Das Mahant of not doing anything for the betterment for the farmers of the States and escaping from his responsibility.
Describing that the farmers have incurred heavy loss due to untimely rains, he said the State Government has announced a package of Rs 200 crore while the Central Government continue to remain silent. The Central Government has yet to announce any relief for the State farmers. The State leaders of the Congress are also not putting any pressure for it. This has unmasked the real face of the congress party in the State, he said.
