Congress condemns 'grand' marriage of surrendered Maoist

The Congress party has criticised ‘grand marriage’ and ‘appointment’ of two surrendered Naxals in State Police Department.

leader of  Congress legislature Party (ClP) TS Singhdeo on Tuesday, while addressing a Press conference said that the Congress party condemns the manner in which the two surrendered Naxals were married off and later on, even given Government jobs.

He questioned the message being sent out, as Naxals who were married with great pomp and show were allegedly involved in the Jheeram Ghati attack by Maoists on the Congress party convoy in May 2013. The attack had killed several senior State-level Congress party leaders including former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla. Singhdeo said it was not just the killing but brutality of attack that needs to be considered before such a function.

a“The Jheeram Ghati attack by Maoists was a slaughter in which unarmed and innocent people were killed. Any person involved in Jheeram Ghati massacre directly or indirectly is not worth pardoning. The 84-year-old former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla was also not spared,” he said adding that the police is awarding such persons instead of punishing them.
