Congress claims Union Budget as 'disappointing'

The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) has termed the maiden union budget of Narendra Modi Government as ‘disappointing’.

“People had great expectations but the budget disappointed them. While there was nothing for farmers, women and youth in the budget, it would only benefit big business houses” said CGPCC President, Bhupesh Baghel and ClP leader TS Singh Deo in a joint press release issued here on Thursday.

The leaders added that while there was no provision for any big project in the budget, no efforts were made to check inflation and generate more employment. “While farmers and the common man were neglected in the budget, the government also deceived the people of middle-class section” said both the leaders, adding, that BJP Government, which was against Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) before the election, has increased the same from 26 per cent to 49 per cent in insurance and in defense sector, each.

The government only made a provision of Rs100 crore for the welfare of tribal people and Rs120 crore for youth leadership, which is insufficient. The Congress leaders accused the government of changing ‘Skilled Developed Programme’ and ‘Rajiv Gandhi Jeevan Jyoti Programme’ of previous UPA Government to ‘Dakshbharat Programme’ and ‘Dindayal Jeevan Jyoti Programme’ respectively.

“Narendra Modi’s Government did not make any provision for MNREGA, which showed their intention to conspiringly discontinue the scheme, which generate employments in rural areas. Besides, there was no provision for National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in the budget” they alleged.
