The ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh on Saturday burnt an effigy of senior Bhartiya Janata Party leader and Janjgir-Champa MLA Narayan Chandel after his son was booked for raping tribal woman.

Palash Chandel, son of the Leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, Narayan Chandel, was booked under the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act a few days ago for sexually exploiting a woman for several years on the pretext of marriage.

A zero FIR was lodged in Mahila Thana in Raipur and then transferred to Janjgir-Champa. Congress spokesman Dhananjay Singh Thakur said Chandel must tender his resignation as the Leader of Opposition and he must present his son to the police to surrender.

“The police in Janjgir-Champa constituted a five-member team led by DSP Chandra Shekhar Parma to investigate the case," Janjgir-Champa Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said.
