Congress, BJP spar over private Medical College

Published on:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress were on Sunday locked in a war of words over the Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Government Medical College.

The BJP asked the Congress government to clarify on its status of the college before the government's takeover.

The Congress accused the BJP of indulging in cheap politics and said it was not concerned over the future of students in the college.

BJP spokesperson Devlal Thakur said Health and Family Welfare Minister T.S. Singhdeo should clarify when the privately run Chandulal Chandrakar Medical College was taken over and whether it was recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

He said the government had stated that efforts were on to win recognition for the Medical College. This means the government had lied on the issue.

In the name of students, the government is trying to cover up the corruption involved in the deal, he added.

Chhattisgarh Congress Medical Cell President Dr Rakesh Gupta said the BJP was indulging in petty        politics on the subject of acquisition of the private medical college.

The letter of essentiality was given by the former BJP government to the Central government to open a          medical college. The state government acquired it to save the future of 450 students studying in the college.

The students would have otherwise faced a crisis like the Indian medical students who had to quit Ukraine, he added.
