Congress, BJP spar in C’garh

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) President Mohan Markam on Saturday raised questions over the leadership qualities of newly appointed state BJP chief Vishndeo Sai while the BJP hit back saying Sai's return at the helm has unnerved Markam.

Markam said the BJP leadership had earlier considered Sai unfit for a Lok Sabha ticket but has now given the responsibility to head the party due to different groups within. "How can such a person raise questions over the working of an elected government with a three-fourth majority?

He said: “Farmers’ loans have been waived off, the government is effectively controlling the Covid-19 pandemic and fulfilling other promises it made. The BJP chief should introspect on his own statements. It would reflect the party leaders and BJP’s ineligibility.”

“Sai should question his own party’s own senior leaders like Ramvichar Netam, Brijmohan Agrawal and others, is he acceptable for them and party workers,” mocked Markam.

Reacting to it, BJP's former state President Vikram Usendi and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Dharamlal Kaushik said in a joint statement: “Markam should not think the BJP has the same character as the Congress. With Sai’s appointment, Congress leaders fear the expansion of the BJP in the state. This is why the CPCC president is giving such statement.”

“Getting a ticket, a win or loss in election is not a political prerequisite. The BJP has given importance to its leaders, office bearers and workers' dedication and organizational skills. It respects each worker,” Usendi said.

“In nearly two years, the state government has been involved in creating political commotion by squarely blaming the Central government for even minor issues. On Covid-19 front also it has totally failed with a spike in cases on a daily basis,” the BJP leaders said.
