A delegation led by Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Bhupesh Baghel called on Director General of Police (DGP) A.N. Upadhyay and urged him to quash the police complaint registered against the party MlA from Balod segment and other local party cadres on October 6.
Baghel was accompanied by Balod district unit Congress chief Haldhar Sahu and other party leaders and submitted a memorandum to the DGP. Baghel claimed that the complaint filed by the police against the Congress MlA Bhaiyaram Sinha and 19 local party workers under sections 332, 353, 294, 341 and 147 of the IPC for staging a demonstration is ‘immoral and contrary to the truth’.
Baghel termed the police action harsh and called for immediate quash of the FIR. “In presence of heavy police force, a youth, who was later identified as a policeman in civil dress, threw a bucket of water on the effigy which Congress workers were planning to burn as a part of their demonstration, which led to a chaos on the spot” claimed Baghel.
He added that when the MlA inquired about the duty hours of the cop, the senior police officials failed to give any satisfactory answer. To this, the party workers shouted slogans but did not manhandle, misbehave or abuse to the cops, he claimed.
While submitting the memorandum, the senior Congress leaders also made available video footage of the incident. They urged the senior police official to withdraw all the charges filed against party leaders.
