Cong trying to get political mileage, charges BJP

Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh does not talk to small people, Chhattisgarh unit General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Shivratan Sharma said on Thursday while referring to Congress leaders’ allegation on alleged revelations made on a CD pertaining to Indira Priyadarshini Co-operative Bank case.

‘The Congress is trying to rake up the issue on the Indira Priyadarshini Co-operative Bank with the forthcoming Assembly polls in mind in Chhattisgarh,’ he said while addressing a news conference here .

Sharma said that the gherao programme of Chief Minister’s residence organised by the Congress party in Raipur has miserably flopped with the party being not even in a position to mobilise sizeable number of its workers.

Even with the presence of senior Congress leaders such as  B K Hariprasad for the gherao programme, the Congress party could not gather sufficient people in the city for its gherao programme, he said.

Referring to theissue of  Congress allegation on alleged payouts made to the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and his cabinet colleagues in the Indira Priyadarshini Bank case, Sharma said that the defunct bank was actually run by people who are related to Congress families.

‘The bank which was opened in the name of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by its directors had all its 13 directors holding key posts in the Congress party or were wives of senior Congress leaders,’, he said.

Sharma said that the alleged revelations made in the Indira Priyadarshini Co-opeartive Bank issue shows that the  Congress leaders had a direct involvement in it.

‘The Bharatiya Janata Party would sell the assets of the defunt bank and return the money of the depositors,’, he said.

To a query over reaction of the central BJP leadership over the Indira Priyadarshini Bank issue, Sharma remarked : ‘The central leadership has full faith in the BJP government under the leadership of Dr Raman Singh in Chhattisgarh’.

To another query over Congress leaders demanding a CBI probe into the issue with the BJP’s reply on Wednesday that the matter is already pending in the court, the BJP State General Secretary commented : ‘The matter is subjudice. ‘

Sharma said that the State unit of the BJP would urge the State government  to take action against the loan defaulters of the bank.

‘The Co-operatives, Police and Revenue departments in Chhattisgarh would intensify their drive for recovery of outstanding loans from the defaulters,’, he added.
