Welcoming the declaration of election and imposition of model code of conduct in Chhattisgarh by the election commission of India, State Congress president Dr Charandas Mahant and leader of the opposition Ravindra Choubey said that the party was fully prepared for the elections.

In a press statement issued here on Friday, the Congress leaders said that the Congress would make the invective of Chief Minister Raman Singh and his ministers an issue, along with the corruption and breach of promises by the BJP Government.

They said, there were stiff opposition in Chhattisgarh against Raman Singh and the BJP. Now, change is imminent, they added.

The Congress would launch effective and offensive election campaign on the issues of reduction in the reservation of scheduled castes, lathicharge on tribal people during the BJP rule, incidents like Sarkeguda, Edesmata, Meena Khalkho, Jhaliamari, along with allotment of mine fields and corruption in energy department, the leaders said.

They said that the party workers would pay special attention that the election model code of conduct is strictly followed in the State and the ruling party has not been affecting the election by using their post and power.

During the election, the workers would remain alert and take information time-to-time, they added.

Now the personal and party publicity through government advertisements should be stopped in Chhattisgarh. Posters, banners and hoardings put up with Government funds should be removed and decisions that would influence voters should be banned, the leader duo demanded.

For impartial election in Chhattisgarh and in all other states, the government officers deployed for election work should maintain impartiality. They should not become instruments in the hands of any political party, they said.
