Continue its tirade against BJP-led Government for alleged ‘Ration Card Scam’ in the State, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) on Friday termed it bigger than the ‘Fodder Scam’ of Bihar.
“Those holding top positions in the State Government and administration were completely aware about the scam but they turned a blind eye for their political mileage and monetary gain,” alleged CGPCC media cell in-charge, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, in a statement released to press on Friday.Trivedi added that ahead of Assembly polls, which were held in the State in November last year, the State Government issued ration cards on large scale during August-September, last year.
“Chhattisgarh is the house of around 56 lakhs families while the State Government issued ration cards to about 70.26 lakh families,” the Congress leader claimed.Following this, the number of families availing ration card’s facilities suddenly increased from the previous figure of around 33 lakhs to 66 lakhs, said Trivedi.“As per the records, about 1.8 lakh ton rations were distributed among the ration card holders in August, last year. While in September, the figure reached to 2.69 ton, which shows a 65 per cent increase,” he claimed.
He added that the State Government issued ration card to the relatives and those close to BJP leaders.“Presently, the relatives of senior BJP leaders are availing benefits of ration cards, while the poor people are being troubled in the name of ration card verification and cancellation drive,” said Trivedi.
