The BJP national general secretary and Chhattisgarh state in-charge Jagat Prakash Nadda said on Wednesday that the Congress party has been seeing Naxalism issue through political spectacles.
"For the Congress, politics is above all and the burning issues of the country were secondary,"' he said.
He termed the statements issued to journalists by the two Union Ministers Jairam Ramesh and V Narayansami, who visited restive Bastar region's Jagadalpur on Tuesday to give relief amount to the kin of Congress leaders and workers martyred in May 25 deadly attack by Maoists, "highly deplorable and unfortunate'".
At the press conference organised at the BJP State headquarters, Ekatma Parisar, Nadda said that the statements of the Central Ministers -- Jairam Ramesh and Narayansami - "were totally irresponsible as the Naxal problem has been in the country for the past 50 years, in fact, it has taken birth, grown and became a big problem during the Congress rule."
"The Naxalite problem has taken its worst form in undivided Madhya Pradesh during the reign of the Congress chief ministers Motilal Vora and Digvijay Singh in 1980-90s and now it has become cancer. The Congress never tried to solve it in a systematic manner. The BJP Government has also made development works in the five-six thousand square kilometer area of Bastar, of which Jairam Ramesh had termed as 'Naxal Raj'," Nadda said at the press conference.
The BJP leader further said that after coming into power, BJP Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh has not only taken action against Naxalism by making systematic action plan, but made new dimensions of development in adverse situations also.
About allegations of the Congress that the May 25 attack was a 'political conspiracy', Nadda challenged the Congress to put up the case with witnesses before the judicial commission. He said that the Centre should make clear its stand against the Naxalites. "The need of the hour is to fight the Naxalites with full might and the Centre should give attention towards it with total seriousness," he said.
