The Congress party has opposed the bid of BJP Government in State to hand over operations of nine key State-owned hospitals across the State through Private Public Partnership (PPP) mode.
The party has decided to oppose the effort of the Government in this regard by launching an agitation soon.
In a press conference held at Congress Bhawan here on Thursday , the Chairman, Health Wing of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC), Dr Rakesh Gupta alleged that the State government had failed to provide health facility to the people of the State.
“Education and health are the core sectors and are commitments of any elected Government but the Government here is escaping from its responsibility to fulfill it”, he said.
It is unfortunate that the State Government is going to hand over operation of hospitals to the private sector, he said.
Citing decision taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary of the State to hand over operations of nine of the Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the State on PPP to private sector, Gupta said it would unnecessarily put financial burden on the people of the State.
They (people) now have to pay higher medical expenses whereas they should be treated free in the Government hospitals, he said.
The hospitals which are going to be handed over to private sector include one in Naya Raipur while the other is located in Kurud. The Government thus had failed to provide essential medical services in State capital itself as well as at the home town of the Health Minister, he added.
Gupta further said it was ridiculous that on one hand the State government was running the liquor shops on its own but on the other, it was escaping from its responsibility to provide medical facilities to the people of the State by running the hospitals on its own.
