Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) will hold a protest on Sunday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Chhattisgarh visit for not getting an appointment to meet him and Congress leaders will also try to forcibly meet the PM, informed CGPCC chief Bhupesh Baghel.

We had written to the Prime Minister Office (PMO) and district Collectors OF Raipur and Rajnandgaon, seeking appointment with PM during his visit, however, so far we have not received any communication in this regard, Baghel told reporters during an informal discussion at party’s state headquarters here.

Congress workers will stage a protest at Gandhi Chowk in Raipur and we will try to meet the PM Modi forcibly. Similar attempts will be made at Dongargarh so that voice of farmers could be conveyed to the Prime Minister,” Baghel added.

Prime Minister will reach Raipur at 8.45 am by a special flight at Raipur airport. He will launch a 'Rural-Urban (Rurban) mission in Chhattisgarh, aimed at proper implementation of various development schemes. The ambitious Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban (Rural-Urban) mission will be launched at Chhattisgarh’s temple town Dongargarh in Rajnandgaon district.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone for housing scheme in Naya Raipur under which 40,000 EWS and lIG houses will be constructed in a bid to achieve the target of housing for all by 2022.

According to Baghel, Congress leaders wanted to meet PM Modi, to discuss about a slew of issues related to Chhattisgarh such as a long time pending commitment by the State Government to farmers regarding paddy bonus, rising cases of farmers’ suicides, fake surrenders of Maoists in Bastar region, sexual harassment of tribal women by police forces.

“We also wanted to apprise him (PM) about the condition of journalists in Bastar region. The treatment being meted out by police to scribe Santosh Yadav, Samaru Nag and Malini Subramanyam along with cane charge on Congress party workers staging peaceful protest has shows that democracy does not exist in Bastar,” he said.
