The Congress on Monday named Dr Krishan Kumar Dhruw as its candidate for next month’s by-election from the Marwahi (ST) constituency which fell vacant following the death of Chhattisgarh's first Chief Minister Ajit Jogi in May.
On Sunday, BJP named Dr Gambheer Singh as its candidate while the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) has not announced its nominee.
Ajit Jogi won the 2018 Assembly poll from Marwahi but he passed away on May 29, 2020. Marwahi seat has been a Jogi family bastion since the state's formation in 2000.
Marwahi will see a bye-election on November 3 and the votes will be counted on November 10.
Congress Central Election Committee General Secretary Mukul Wasnik declared the names of six candidates for the upcoming Assembly by-polls in Chhattisgarh and Gujarat. Only one constituency will go to the polls in Chhattisgarh.
