The Opposition Congress members on Monday staged a walkout in State Assembly over an issue of compensation to affected farmers and developmental works reportedly hit in 41 villages of Naya Raipur, which had been declared as ‘urban areas’.
Raising the issue during Question Hour, Congress member Dhanendra Sahu sought information about number of villages in Naya Raipur declared as ‘urban areas’.
As many as 41 villages of Naya Raipur have been declared as ‘urban areas’, replied Revenue and Disaster Management Department Minister Prem Prakash Pandey.
Meanwhile, the Minister also informed that Panchayat arrangement would remain effective in the 41 villages.
Subsequently, Sahu said due to dual arrangement of Panchayat as well as urban arrangement, development works in the villages were significantly affected. Instead of protecting the interest of farmers, the Government has changed the existing rule and the new land acquisition law is going to cost farmers in the region.
Meanwhile, Congress member Bhupesh Baghel asked how Panchayat system would work in urban area.
According to Pandey, works in the villages are being carried out by Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA) as well as Panchayat.
The State Government was committed to protect the interest of farmers by saving them from loss in any situation and for this, the Government was providing compensation as per the provision of old and new rehabilitation policy, he said.
Dissatisfied with the answer of Revenue Minister, Congress members staged a walkout.
