Opposition Congress members on Tuesday created uproar in the Chhattisgarh Assembly over alleged cane-charge on them on Monday and corruption in Food and Civil Supplies Department. They eventually staged a walkout for the day when Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal rejected their notice for the adjournment motion.
As the question hour began, Congress members raised the issue of cane-charge and corruption in Food and Civil Supplies Department. They alleged that they were peacefully taking out Kisan Mazdoor Nyay Yatra on March 16 with farmers, labourers, party workers including women when police started cane-charge. Many sustained injuries in the cane- charge which was done by police without permission of the administration, they alleged.
Revenue Minister Prem Prakash Pandey said that the issue has been raised earlier also and the proceedings should not be disturbed repeatedly on the same issue. The Speaker also advised to follow the rules and the proceedings of question hour should not be disturbed.
Immediately after the question hour, the Congress members once again raised the issue and soon the House echoed with slogans. The Speaker then adjourned the House for five minutes. As soon as the House reassembled, Congress member Satynarayan Sharma , Kawasi lakhma , Bhupesh Baghel and others once again demanded for discussion on the issue as they have given notice.
The Speaker however once again rejected the notice on technical grounds as a number of issues were included in the notice for adjournment motion. The Congress members tried to convince the Speaker to remove all other issues from the notice and hold discussion on cane-charge.
Congress member Amit Jogi and leader of Opposition gave reference of various rules under which the Speaker can hold discussion on the issue. But Speaker did not consider the arguments and rejected the notice.
Congress members then resorted to raising slogans while demanding resignation of the Chief Minister and CBI probe in the corruption case. The Speaker paid no heed to their protest and continued with the proceedings of the House amid uproar. Singhdeo said that the ruling party is not ready for discussion and explanation and hence Congress will stage walkout for the day.
