A crucial meeting of Central Election Committee (CEC) of All India Congress Committee (AICC) is scheduled at National Capital on October 12. The meeting is considered crucial with announcement of election schedule in five states that includes Chhattisgarh. It is expected that the CEC will finalise the list and announce the names of first list of candidates after the meeting.
Bhubaneswar Kalita led screening committee would first hold the meeting which would finalise the list of candidates provided by the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee and hand it over to CEC for finalisation on Wednesday.
It is expected that the CEC would declare the names for the elections in the state to be held in the first phase on November 12.
Senior party leaders of Congress on the CEC meeting in New Delhi on October 12 intimated that the AICC is going to form a five member election committee for conduct of elections in Chhattisgarh.
The step of AICC can be seen as a damage control exercise after the image of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Bhupesh Baghel got tainted in the sleaze CD case and alleged sting operation on him.
Downsizing the stature of Baghel, the committee is being formed and a joint team would be assigned the job of conducting elections in the state going to held next month, party sources informed.
