Cong launches protest over paddy procurement policy

Senior State-level Congress leaders on Sunday claimed that the new adjustments in paddy procurement policy will cause huge losses to the farmers.

“All it’s happening due to the ruling government’s inability to perform its job to complete the custom milling process” alleged CGPCC President Bhupesh Baghel and ClP leader TS Singhdeo in a joint press release issued here.

Meanwhile, Congress workers staged demonstrations across the State as a medium to register their protest against the State government for making some ‘unpleasant’ adjustments in paddy procurement policy.

Notably, the Chhattisgarh Cabinet on Saturday decided to limit procurement of paddy to 10 quintal per acre and asked the cooperative societies to start the process from December 1.

“Around 85 per cent population of the State depends on farming for earning their livelihood. The State government’s new directives regarding paddy procurement will only worsen financial condition of the farmers” Baghel and Singhdeo alleged.

They urged the BJP-ruling government to revoke its decisions and purchase every single grain of paddy from the farmers as it had promised during 2013 Assembly polls in the State.
