Cong Kalash Yatra to begin amid security concerns

Published on:

The Congress party’s Kalash Yatra beginning on Thursday from Rajim to pay tributes to the martyred leaders killed in the May 25 Maoist attack at Jeeram ghati in Bastar is under persistent terror shadow as the State intelligence advisory to the security forces have sounded maximum alert during the movement of the convoy.

Even while Rajim remains out of the ‘Red zone’ swarmed by the Maoists during a typical attack as was carried out at Jeeram ghati in Bastar, the threat perception remains as high as issued for any Maoist infested zone in Bastar, intelligence sources stated. Intelligence inputs sent to the security forces have warned against threats which are ‘non conventional’ and ‘hard to predict’ in non combat territories.

Due precautions had been taken to look into every aspect of the threat also on the routes where there is no perceptible history of Maoist violence of any form during the past decades, sources stated. The ‘Kalash Yatra’ would have a posse of plain clothes security personnel to carry out surveillance at every stage while keeping tabs on every movement of those who move with the convoy, they informed.

This is also the first occasion after the Jeeram Ghati massacre that security tasks are being made totally in sync with minute to minute report from the spot as to be reported by the intelligence personnel who would be part of the convoy.
