Continuing their protest against alleged anomalies in the ongoing the ration card verification and cancellation drive, the City Wing of Congress party led a number of people and staged ‘Chakka Jam’ at Gudhiyari Urla Main Road on Wednesday.
Raipur City District Committee President, Vikas Upadhyay, in a press release, claimed that hundreds of people including women from different colonies of Sant Kabirdas Ward, Ramkrishna Paramhans Ward and Bal Gangadhar Tilak Ward staged ‘Chakka Jam’ from 11 am till 3 pm.
“The participating people were annoyed as the officials concerned were yet to carry out verification of their ration cards. Therefore, the poor people could not avail benefits of food allotment on low price during the last two months” said Upadhyay.
Following the protest, SDM Padmini Bhoi and ASP Rajiv Sharma reached the spot along with the Food Department officials and the civic body’s officials concerned.
After hearing their grievances, the SDM assured the protesting people of carrying out the ration card verification work during the next four days. To this, Upadhyay warned to intensify the protest if the administration fails to fulfill their assurance of carrying out the verification work in the said time.
