Cong hails Baghel govt for buying record paddy

Published on:

The Congress on Wednesday hailed the Chhattisgarh government for buying a record 100 lakh tonnes of paddy from farmers.

Addressing the media, PCC chief Mohan Markam and Ministers Ravindra Choubey, Amarjeet Bhagat, Mohammad Akbar and Shiv Kumar Daharia called it a “historic achievement".

Markam said they "were feeling pleased as if a century has been scored in a cricket match".

Appreciating the Bhupesh Baghel government, the Congress leaders said it was now known to all why Chhattisgarh was termed a rice bowl.

This year, the government had so far procured more than 100 tonnes of paddy as against a target of 110 tonnes.

More than Rs 21,000 crore has been paid to farmers against the procurement, Choubey said.

The government has fulfilled the commitment of paying Rs 2,500 per quintal of paddy and done justice under the Nyay Scheme, he said.

Paddy is a strong pillar of economy in Chhattisgarh, he added.

“The work of Baghel government speaks out, and the difference in governance in 15 years verses last four years is clearly evident," Daharia said.
