Congress party’s ticket aspirants for the upcoming Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh are eagerly awaiting for the party’s Election Committee Meeting to be held here on Friday.

The meeting will be followed by close door talks by All India Congress Committee’s Screening Committee Chief Bhubaneswar Kalita with senior state-level party leaders on Friday, where the list of candidates is expected to be finalized.

Official sources informed that the crucial Election Committee Meeting is going to be held at  party’s State Headquarters Rajiv Bhawan on Friday morning in which veteran Congress leader of the State and AICC General Secretary (Administration), Motilal Vora would be especially present along with AICC In-charge of Chhattisgarh, P.L. Punia and other senior office bearers of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC).

AICC’s Screening Committee Chief, Bhubaneswar Kalita is also to arrive in Raipur on Friday afternoon and will have a close door talks with senior party leaders of the state where the list of candidates are to be finalized.

Though the party is most likely to field almost all incumbent MLAs and is working out a strategy to avoid any rebellion, some constituencies, including Korba and Kunkuri remain tricky for the party to take a call as the induction of two former IAS officers, R.P.S. Tyagi and Sergious Minj has ruffled local aspirants from there.

The party claims that ticket distribution will be balanced and inclusive of candidates from the OBC, minority and Dalit communities, apart from adequate number of women candidates may be fielded this time.

The party’s State Election Committee had already completed the first level of screening of candidates and had finalized a list of two to three winnable candidates for each constituency, sources informed.

As per the directives of AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi, the entire process has to be completed by the month of September, sources said.
