Cong demands high level probe into rape, murder

The Opposition Congress on Saturday demanded a high level probe into the alleged involvement of former Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Krishnamurti Bandhi in the alleged rape and murder of a woman.

State Congress spokesman Sushil Anand Shukla said the woman, who died after being set on fire in Dayalbad area of Bilaspur, had alleged in public that Krishnamurti’s personal assistant RR Bharadwaj refused to take her to his home despite they were married.

She allegedly went to the house of Krishnamurti, who is also a sitting legislator, on January 15-16 to air her grievances. Instead of giving her justice, Bharadwaj and Bandhi allegedly raped her. The victim ran from pillar to post and brought the matter to the notice of police and other higher authorities but no action was taken, Shukla said.

Instead of taking action against the offenders, the BJP rather rewarded Bandhi by giving him party ticket to contest the election, he alleged. Every day the State is witnessing incidents of rape. Even girls staying in hostels are not safe, he said. He also alleged that more than 17,000 women were missing in the State and the Government has never showed interest to know their whereabouts.
