Cong demands CBI probe into bank 'scam'

The Chhattisgarh State unit of the Congress have demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged scam in the now closed Indira Priyadarshini Cooperative Bank ‘scam’.

All the senior leaders of the State unit are of the view that especially the authenticity of the compact discs (CD) of the Narco test of the Umesh Sinha should be established through the  inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).The party asked that the main accused of the Bank scam Umesh Sinha’s whereabouts should be revealed. These were the two main issues raised in a press conference of the Congress Party’s State Unit, held here in Party's State headquarters on Wednesday.

Former Minister  Mohammad Akbar said: “In this issue, police stated in its first Chalan that Narco test of the accused Umesh Sinha must be carried out, but did not mention it on second one. Content of such CD is not even verified by police through interrogation of accused Umesh Sinha,” he added. The accused Sinha said in CD that on the instructions of Rita Tiwari, money had been allegedly delivered to Chief Minister and four of his cabinet colleagues but  none of them interrogated in this regard, he said.

Following this another former Minister Satyanarayan Sharma also tried to substantiate the allegation made by Mohammed Akbar with the help of certain documents and demanded that one more Narco test must be done on Rita Tiwari who dramatically took a u turn after the press conference held by Minister Brijmohan Agrawal  in which credibility of such CD was put under suspicion on the basis of the conflicting content in it. Sharma said: “We suspect that some under hand dealing transpired in between hence Rita Tiwari and main accused Umesh should be interrogated by police.”

Following which, Programme Convener of the State Congress Committee Bhupesh Baghel once again said that spokesman of the BJP Government said that Indira Priyadarshini bank scam related Narco test CD released by Congress is fake, then   people have right to know the truth, and now BJP Government should produce the real CD among the people. Baghel said: “Congress Mafi Nahi Mangegi’ (Congress will not seek apology).” He challenged the Chief Minister that he (CM) may file a defamation case against him. Baghel said that, otherwise he should step down. He said FIR should also be registered against them.
