Cong cadres held in bid to lay siege to CM House

Police took at least 60 Congress cadres into preventive custody on Friday in Raipur after they defied police warnings and attempted to lay seize to Chief Minister residence in a bid to highlight alleged rise in crime graph, suicide cases of farmers and various others issues.

The demonstration was organised was the Youth Congress (YC) which alleged law and order situation in the State has worsened during the BJP regime and crime graph and corruption cases have shot up. Dozens of YC workers heading towards CM House were prevented by strong police deployment near Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) building.

Around 60 YC workers were taken into preventive custody but later they were let off, said Kotwali City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anshuman Singh Sisodia.

“Crime rate across the state has significantly risen, farmers have been committing suicide in Chhattisgarh, corruption cases have also soared, even a massive hike has been effected in property tax recently during Raman Singh-led BJP government in the state and the YC is determined to intensify protest against the state government to expose it before common people,’’ alleged a senior YC leader Sunil Kukreja.
