Cong brings no trust motion against BJP Govt

Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal on Tuesday accepted the “no confidence motion” moved by the Opposition Congress members against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State.

A decision regarding the same was taken by him by taking voice vote which required at least one-tenth of the capacity of 90-member State Assembly. Discussions on the motion would be held on Friday (July 6), the Speaker ruled.

Notably, two no-trust motions were already moved in the State Assembly in the ongoing monsoon session. One was of by the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) (J) supported legislators, Amit Jogi, R.K. Rai and Siyaram Kaushik. While second was moved by the leader of Opposition and Congress legislator T.S. Singhdeo along with his legislative party members.

As the motion of Jogi and other JCC (J) supporters came first the Speaker gave priority to it. As Amit Jogi, the applicant was not present and as it could not garner necessary minimum prescribed supporters to back the motion, it was rejected. Even treasury benches raised the issue that Amit is not present in House

The Treasury Bench member and Minister Brijmohan Agrawal also objected to it and demanded from the Speaker to declare punishment for them for being absent from the House when such an important motion was tabled.

Meanwhile, Speaker later took voice vote for the motion moved by the leader of Opposition. After it was okayed, the Speaker ruled that discussions on the motion would be conducted on the last day of the session i.e. on Friday, July 6.

Notably, this would be the third ‘No Confidence Motion’ by the Opposition Congress members during the third term of the ruling BJP Government in the state.
