The Congress members on Friday tried to corner the ruling BJP government over a wide set of issues during the no confidence motion brought against Chief Minister Raman Singh and his Cabinet in the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
The discussion remained incomplete and the House was adjourned for the day at 10 pm with the decision to resume the discussion at 11 am on Saturday.
The Congress members raised Civil Supplies scam, Paddy procurement, MNREGA, ration cards and other issues during the discussion.
leading the Opposition charge, Congress member Bhupesh Baghel said the ruling BJP Government has failed to fulfill and implement its promises made in their poll manifesto.
The Government had assured of raising the support price on paddy to Rs 2100 per quintal and Rs 300 bonus to be paid to farmers for paddy but till date none of these were fulfilled, Baghel said.
The Government claimed that Chhattisagarh would be a surplus power State but there is no electricity in the villages. lands of farmers are being snatched in the name of industrialization. But farmers neither get any benefits nor are they in a position to improve farming activities, he said. MGNREGA wages are due since 2012, Baghel said.
Over Civil Supplies scam unearthed by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), the Congress member sought a CBI inquiry into the matter. Defending the State Government, Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said that during the last 11 years, the State Civil Supplies Corporation purchased rice worth
Rs 33,000 crore while the Opposition had alleged a scam of Rs 36,000 crore. How could that be possible, he questioned.
The Chief Minister had directed ACB to unearth all corrupt practices in the State which led to unearthing of the scam, he said. Taking strong steps in this direction, the State government not only arrested the officials involved in the scam but has written to the Central government for permission to prosecute two IAS officials in this connection, he said.
