The ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh and the main Opposition BJP were at the loggerheads over a letter
released by State police asking police stations to collect information about ‘Hindu Organisations’ active in their respective areas.
The official twitter handle of Chhattisgarh BJP on late Saturday night tweeted an order from Gariaband district Superintendent of Police directing Station House Officers in the district to collect updated information about Hindu organisations active in their police station limits.
Interestingly in the tweet BJP also demanded SIT probe in incident. The SIT demand by the BJP is basically intended to mock Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel who has constituted a series of SITs since the Congress came to power in December last.
BJP State President Dharamlal Kaushik while commenting over the order said, “it clearly indicates the mindset and thought process of the current (Congress) Government towards the Hindu organisations’’.
“If they required information, then they should have collected info about all kinds of religious organisations working in any particular area. But specifically targeting Hindu organisations is not right. It can be used to instigate fear in those groups and such things need to be corrected,” Kaushik told The Pioneer.
On being asked whether such information gathering had happened during the previous BJP regime, he denied of having knowledge about any such activity.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson Chhattisgarh Congress, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi while terming it a routine policing activity and claimed that in 2015 when Raman Singh-led BJP Government was in power, they did a similar exercise.
