Concluding Assembly session likely to be stormy

Published on:

The concluding session of the third Assembly of Chhattisgarh is commencing from July 15 and is likely to be stormy, even as both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition Congress are chalking out strategies for the five-day session.

While the Congress is planning to stall proceedings by outright boycott or extending mass resignation, the State Government seemed all set to bring at least half-a-dozen key bills and over

`2,000 crore additional budget in its bid to win over the heart of masses in the election year.

According to sources, on Monday, the Assembly will pay tribute to Congress leaders martyred in the May 25 Darbha Maoist attack. After paying tribute to VC Shukla, Nand Kumar Patel, Mahendra Karma and Udai Mudliyar, the House will be adjourned for the day.

On the next day, Opposition Congress is scheduled to bring adjournment motion in the House on the Maoist attack on the Congress convoy in which 31 people were killed and an equal number injured, and demand action against those responsible for lapse in providing security which led to the attack and will try to stall the House proceedings. The Opposition members can even abruptly announce their en masse resignations from the House on the same issue. On the other hand, the treasury bench will try to buy time citing the reason of Judicial probe ordered in  to the incident and ask the Opposition to wait till report of the Commission comes out, but the House is set to witness  blame game and fracas between the two sides on the issue. On the issue, the Congress can take some big decision to send some message to public.

At the same time, in the concluding session, the Government will bring

`2,000 crore supplementary budget and half a dozen important bill and amendments, including the one to put some control on the private institutions operating in the higher education sector and also

banning the sale of

agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes.
