Complaint against OP Chaudhary for alleged model code violation

A delegation of Congress leaders led by former Mayor and senior Congress leader Kiranmayi Nayak on Thursday met the Chief Electoral Officer, Subrat Sahoo, and lodged a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Kharsia for alleged violation the Modal Code of Conduct by distributing boxes containing shaving kit to the male voters in the Assembly constituency.

In the complaint, the Congress leaders charged that Chaudhary had distributed shaving kit to male voters of his constituency and cited newspaper cuttings having photograph of the kit and also uploaded in the social media. There is also photograph of Chaudhary on the kit along with party symbol, they charged.

As per price tag seen in the photograph published, the estimated cost of kit is around Rs 435 and it has been distributed to all 50,000 male voters, the Congress leaders in their memorandum said.

The expenditure made in distribution must be included in electoral expenditure of Chaudhary,  Congress leaders demanded. This is a clear case of luring the voters by giving bribe as seen from the photograph of Chaudhary on kit, they said.
