Committee to probe cross-voting in Korea

AICC's Chhattisgarh in charge P.L. Punia on Sunday told PCC chief Mohan Markam to set up a state-level panel to probe cross-voting in the Congress, leading to a BJP candidate becoming Chairperson of the civic body at Baikunthpur, the headquarter of Korea district.

Addressing the media, Punia expressed distress over the cross-voting and said such a thing should not have been happened. “I have asked the PCC chief to set up an enquiry committee to probe the matter," he said.

There was a clear majority of 11 councilors in the 20-member council but the Congress lost the election of Chairperson as there was cross-voting within.

Later, Congress leader Aftab Ahmed was seen with BJP leaders after the end of elections on Saturday.

Meanwhile, because of a rift over nomination of the Congress candidate for Baikunthpur Municipal Council, BJP's Navita Shivhare got elected to the coveted post.

The District Congress immediately terminated Ahmadullah Firoz, Mussharrat Jahan (Councilor), Aftab Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed on Saturday. Now, a three-member committee will probe the matter.

The committee will be headed by formed MLA Bodhram Kanwar.  Chunnilal Sahu and Arjun Tiwari will be the two other members.
