Colony gardens have become dens of gamblers, boozers

Published on:

Complete police force could be seen on the roads to unmask those who ride on their vehicles covering their face with scarf in order to save themselves from the dust and smoke on the road. The police see them as suspicious, but the gardens in the colonies of the city have become dens of boozers and gamblers, where they would not even peep through, even after complaints.

The police have suddenly launched a drive against those who drive their vehicles covering their faces with scarf, as they feel that anti-socials and people with criminal activities move on the roads covering their faces with scarf. No one has problem in the drive launched for nabbing criminals and suspicious people. But the question is that whether the police are actually serious about nabbing the anti-social elements and criminals. If so, why the police go to the gardens of many colonies in the city, which have become dens of anti-social elements and gambling are going on there day and night, to take action against them.

In the garden of Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar, one of the biggest colonies of the city, day and night gambling is going on even before Diwali. They used to gamble through midnight in the light of mobiles. Many a time nearby residents had made complaints with the police. But the police did not reach there, even for once. On the contrary, on getting complaints, soon they inform the gamblers. Again, after a few hours, the gamblers start their business. Incidents of thefts have been reported in the nearby houses. Many a time, the gamblers start quarrelling and use abusive language, with which the atmosphere of the colony is vitiated, but the police have nothing to do with it.

In all the four sectors of Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar, neither maintenance of the gardens is done, nor there lighting arrangement. Only anti-social elements roam there in the night and police never go there for patrolling.

The situation is the same in Kota, Tatiband, Choubey colony and other colonies also. Gardens of the colonies are at the disposal of anti-socials, but the police have no interest in arresting them or stopping gambling and boozing in the gardens.

ASP City Pankaj Chandra said , we are constantly taking action in such cases. The PCR van could be seen standing near the major gardens around the city. After closing of garden also the concerned police stations performs patrolling of gardens to make sure that anti-social elements do not make garden their safe heaven. If we receive any complaints we will take action.
