Colleges to switch to semester system

Semester system will be adopted in all colleges from the next academic session, said Prof GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur.

While addressing a workshop on 'Choice Based Credit System' (CBCS), organised by PG College here the other day Sharma exuded his confidence over the semester system that “it would help students study throughout the year as examinations would be carried out every six month.”

“With the introduction of new system, the number of students in the classes will also increase,” he said.

“We must adopt modern means of education. The semester system will help students study throughout the year and choice based system will help them work hard”, he added. “It is good for their mental development. There will be internal as well as external examinations. The students will not be left behind at all India level.” Sharma said that the valuation process would also be strict.

“There would be no revaluation.  The students won’t fail in the system and they would be given multiple chances to clear subjects in which they fail”, he added. He said that the system would be more effective to overcome differences.

“In foreign countries there is no convention of giving medal because for them as students who secure 99 per cent marks and one who secures 90 per cent marks are in the same grade. Here, on the basis of percentage, medal will be given to the deserving candidate”, said VC.
