Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has urged Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri to connect Bilaspur, a major commercial and industrial city of Chhattisgarh, with Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata by air to boost commerce.
Thanking the Minister for introducing the Hyderabad-Jagdalpur-Raipur flight service, Baghel said in a letter that Bilaspur, a major hub of trade and commerce in the northern region of Chhattisgarh, now needed attention.
The South Eastern Coal Field Ltd Headquarters, South East Central Railway Zonal Headquarters and Raipur Railway Division are situated in Bilaspur, he said. Bilaspur is one of the important centres of power production in the country.
Besides, there are many industrial areas near Bilaspur which make important contributions to the economy of the state.
The Chief Minister said that if Bilaspur is linked to the metro cities by air, the regional air connectivity would improve. It would also boost the nation's economy, trade, commerce, tourism and health sectors and promote socio-economic activities.
